These poor little basil plants were planted from seeds last November, and have been sitting in the window since then. The meagre sunlight we’ve been getting this winter hasn’t killed them, but hasn’t exactly prodded them to greatness yet, either.

When winter eventually and finally cedes to spring, they’ll get a place outside and should, with any luck, thrive and perhaps reward us with a dish or two of fresh pesto. One can only dream.
