Wednesday’s shocking (yet shockingly unsurprising) events in Washington, D.C., left me deeply saddened about the state of things just next door to us in the USA.
The darkness that befell the Capitol yesterday afternoon got me thinking about the last (and much happier) time I spent there on summer vacation with my family in 2007. Despite the oppressive heat (almost 100°F/38°C) and humidity, Washington impressed us all with its imposing majesty, as designed by Pierre L’Enfant many years ago.
The “Congress House” would be built on “Jenkins Hill” (later to be known as “Capitol Hill“), which L’Enfant described as a “pedestal awaiting a monument”.
